About the Doctors
Christian Hoybjerg, DDS
Dr. Christian Hoybjerggrew up in the Sacramento Valley and fell in love with the area. After living in Idaho, Utah, Spain and Texas he has always desired to move back home. He is delighted to finally be able to call Sacramento home again. He attended college at Brigham Young University. While in college he was a member of the track team and competed in the long jump and triple jump. He graduated with a major in Neuroscience. He also spent two years on a service mission in Spain where he became fluent in Spanish and truly developed a passion for serving others. He came home and worked as a Spanish translator in the Power County Judicial Court System and went on to teach Spanish.
After college, he attended dental school at Loma Linda University. During his years in dental school, he served as President of the Loma Linda University American Student Dental Association. He also sat as Chairman of the Loma Linda Professional Committee that would work hand in hand with the faculty regarding the affairs of the school. He excelled in school and graduated with honors. He was involved in research studies regarding MRI’s and orthodontic brackets. His research findings have been published in the California Dental Journal. He achieved first place in the California Dental Association Research Convention in regards to his research. Furthermore, upon graduation he received the school’s highest award for charitable service, the Wilfred A. Nation Award.
For his orthodontic training, he was accepted into the Loma Linda University Orthodontic Residency. He participated in many dental service clinics throughout his residency and schooling, he even was a dentist student advisor for on-call dental emergencies. He is proficient in treating Phase I, Phase II and adult orthodontics. He has been trained in several types of mechanics, self-ligating brackets, temporary anchorage devises, 3D imaging, extraction, non-extraction cases and orthognathic surgery treatments.
After completion of his training, he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked as the sole orthodontist in two busy practices. He was voted by a 2011 Reader's Choice magazine in Dallas as the number one orthodontist in the Mesquite and Rowlett areas (areas of his offices). This vote was entirely based off patient reviews. He has also been honored as a Mentor for a high school Mentorship program in a local Dallas community.
His professional memberships include the American Association of Orthodontists, Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Sacramento Dental Society and the California Dental Association. He likes to stay current within the orthodontic field and attends orthodontic training.
Dr. Hoybjerg has served as a Scout Master for a scout troop and he actively serves in leadership positions within his church. He thoroughly enjoys the outdoors and loves to fish, bike, hike and be with his family. He has been married to his wife, Megan, for nine years and they have three children and one on the way. Together as a family, they love to try new adventures and travel to new places.
One of Dr. Hoybjerg’s favorite aspects about orthodontics is his chance to meet new people and help change their smiles. He treats each patient and their family as if they were part of his own. He enjoys the ability to help make each patient feel happier and give them the confidence to achieve their dreams. He thoroughly enjoys his job and profession and aims to make a difference one smile at a time.
Ralph A. Callender III, DDS
Dr. Callender believes that orthodontic treatment should be an enjoyable experience for everyone. He is honored for the opportunity to transform his patients’ appearance. If he had a second chance to choose a career, he would choose orthodontics again without hesitation.
Dr. Callender received his D.D.S. from Loma Linda University in 1987 and his Certificate of Orthodontics from Howard University in 1989. He also completed an additional three years of graduate study toward a Ph.D. in Neurophysiology.
Dr. Callender is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. During his training he received the Outstanding Performance in Orthodontic Research award from Howard University Department of Orthodontics and later received special recognition in Recruitment and Retention from the American Dental Association.
Dr. Callender enjoys writing, photography, running, skiing, Bible study and spending time with his family.
Nathan Adams, DDS
Dr. Nathan Adams was born in Placerville, CA in 1983. He grew up in the area, graduating high school from El Dorado Adventist School in 2002. He then attended and graduated from Pacific Union College with a bachelors of science in biology, and a minor in business. During college, he was able to spend his junior year studying internationally in Thailand at Mission College, located two hours from Bangkok. While he was there, he enjoyed learning about the culture and traveling throughout Southeast Asia.
After finishing college, he began dental school at Loma Linda University in southern California in September of 2006. Along with the studying, laboratory work, and clinical training at LLU, he was also involved in volunteer dentistry for underserved populations. He helped all four years in LLU’s annual Clinic with a Heart. He also traveled back to Thailand with a group from LLU to do dentistry at a boarding school and orphanage in December, 2008. He graduated from dental school in May of 2010. Following graduation, he took the licensure examination, and received his California dental license a few months later in August.
In December, 2009, He married Lori Aceres in Grand Terrace, CA. They enjoyed their honeymoon in Fiji following their wedding. His wife is a physical therapist, graduating from LLU in June, 2009. She currently works in Sacramento. They enjoy many activities together such as traveling to new places, playing sports, hiking, and watching movies. After spending their first year of marriage in Southern CA, they relocated to northern CA in December of 2010. They currently are living in El Dorado Hills.
Robert McClurg, DDS
Dr. Robert McClurg has been creating beautiful smiles for over 25 years. He received his dental education and his Master of Science degree from Loyola University in Chicago. Dr. McClurg is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), American Association for Functional Orthodontics (AAFO), California Dental Association (CDA), the Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS) and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). Dr. McClurg enjoys flying, motorcycle riding, traveling and spending time with his family.
